Patience is a virtue

I have been eyeing this Dimepiece hoodie since they came out with it back in fall of 2008. I love that it's comfy, casual with just the right amount of interesting edge. It would be great for the cooler months coming up ahead, especially on days when I feel like hanging up the pea and swing coats for something a little less structured. Plus, don't you think I've waited long enough?

Speaking of waiting, yesterday I had to leave my LSAT prep class about 45 min early because everyone kept asking idiotic questions and I just couldn't wait to get away. I had had a long day and needed a stiff drink pretty badly.

Too bad that lemon-drop martini turned out to be a little too stiff--I couldn't even finish it! There was maybe a sip and a half left and I couldn't even do it. Damn my Asian blush...

Anywho, I hope everyone has a lovely weekend, filled with non-idiotic people and just-the-right-amount-of-stiff drinks!

Tortas para una

This semester, I planned my schedule in a way where I only have class twice a week--Tuesdays and Thursdays. Although only attending classes only two times a week sounds really nice, it's actually not--On those days, I am on campus from 10am to 9:30pm. Sometimes it's really grueling, but I like being able to take some time to rest and focus on school work on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Because I have so much time to myself on those days, I've had time to cook up some things for myself here and there, and today, I made some simple tortas--a type of Mexican sandwich.

I don't generally like to eat alone (something about it seems more lonely than usual), but cooking up random things like this has made it a little more enjoyable.

Any ideas for Wednesday's breakfast, lunch, or dinner?

Always something

Sorry I haven't been doing a really great job at keeping up with this, but there's been a lot of things going on that I had to take care of lately, and getting myself un-sick is one of them. A week ago it was blepharitis, and this week it's the cold, right smack dab in the middle of the first week of school.

On a lighter note, on Thursday my little sister Thao finally turned 21 and we went out this weekend to do some obligatory partying and legalized drinking.

The tiny birthday girl

Daniel and Me, messing with my ridiculously long mane.

I'm not really sure why we have so many male friends...

This is her at Pappadeaux ordering her first Long Island at the bar. So cute, right?

Time for my Sunday nap. Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

Schooled

So I haven't been able to post lately because of this:

That's right, school is back and it'll be here to stay until December. Yay for school (<--Insert enthusiasm if you have any here).

In order to cheer myself up, I've decided to put together a little back-to-school wish list. I'm not sure why anyone would wish anything else beside wishing school itself would simply disappear, but here it is nonetheless.

1. I know the big, metal watches are in right now, but I can't help but be attracted to the classic leather wristband... Also, at only $55 bucks, this Anne Klein watch will not only get me to class on time, but save my wallet too!

2. I love these notebooks--they're really cute and they'll make note-taking in U.S. Foreign Policy a little more fun to do.

3. I think this See By Chloe bag is perfect for carrying all of my crap--it's sturdy, stylish and very versatile. Too bad it's $595.00...

4. A leather bomber is a MUST-HAVE for this fall. I actually bought a really nice once a while ago, but the evil vortex that follows me around must have eaten it... I can't find it anywhere!!!

5. I know a typewriter is not very practical for writing all the important term papers that I will inevitably have to do this year (I would fail miserably without Microsoft Word spellcheck), but I love the sounds they make as I type!

6. These floral doc martens that thecherryblossomgirl owns are amazing. I want them. I NEED them. I feel incomplete! I wish back-to-school was a holiday so that I would have an excuse to get someone else to buy them for me... SIGH.

Maybe this list has depressed me even more instead of cheering me up because, well, I have no money--a means required to obtain such fun and lovely items. Oh well, maybe that's why I'm in school, studying to become a lawyer so I can actually afford everything that I want some day...

Would anyone be interested in applying to become my sugar-daddy?

BLEH-pharitis

After several days of dealing with increasingly swelling eyelids, I finally decided to give the doctor a visit to get a diagnosis and medicine. It was confirmed that I have blepharitis. It's disgusting and it couldn't have come at a worse time--my LSAT evening prep classes started tonight.

On days in which I decide not to wear make-up or in this case, have insanely swollen eyelids, I wear my big crazy-lookin' grandpa glasses to cover up my face, and today was no exception. In addition to these specs, because I did not care to look cute (I was having a pretty rough day) I decided to throw on a big slouchy striped tee over some soft denim shorts and my Kelly Kapowski-inspired lace-up skimmers for class.

Because I live in a world in which awkward/embarrassing situations surround me constantly, the prep class was a sea of students wearing neat button-downs, ties, pencil skirts, clean blouses, starched slacks, etc. Everyone looked as though they had just gotten home from some sort of business financial analysis presentation while I looked like I had been sitting around feeling sick all day and just decided to throw on comfort clothes... Oh well.

Check out the Amstel Light! Since he's turned 21 he's been ordering a beer every where he goes. It's really cute, haha.

Good thing it was dark out... I was having such a crappy day and it definitely showed.

Afterward sitting in class for 3 hours looking like a 12 year old, Max picked me up and took me on over to Fat Matt's Ribshack for a nice shredded BBQ pork sandwich and iced sweet tea. I forgot all of my troubles--juvenile choices in clothing, blepharitis and all.

I hope everyone else had a better Tuesday than me!

Quarter-life crisis

The other day, while browsing around Borders with Max in search of an LSAT prep book, I about lost my shit over some robot totes similar to these:

I had to try really hard to convince myself that I was way too old to be carrying around things like that (after all, I will be 23 in a couple of months), but after coming home to my bedroom, I realized that I may just be a big kid at heart. Here are some of the tell-tale signs of my pervading childishness:

In my defense, the Beanie Baby unicorn in the 5th picture was given to me by my little sister to ward off nightmares (her idea, not mine) and the fried eggs and spatula necklace in the 6th picture was also made and given to me by my little sister... She's 20 years old.

So I went back to Borders the yesterday and lo and behold, the robo-totes were gone. I am still kicking myself over it.

NOTE TO SELF: You are never too old for anything, much less an awesome robot tote, gosh darn it!

Maybe I'll just go back and pick up the awesome rainbow unicorn knapsack that I saw instead.

Do you still buy or keep kids' stuff around?

Ain't no math major or nothin'...

..but someone please tell me how the following items for three people from Cafe Intermezzo on Peachtree Road adds up to a bill of $65.00?

Two iced blended coffees, one sweet tea, one curried chicked mango wrap, one spinach house salad, one teriyaki chicken over rice, and one swedish layered cake with ganache frosting = a bill of $65+...

The Award for Most Expensive Lunch of 2009 goes to (drum roll).... CAFE INTERMEZZO!

It's no wonder the place is totally hoppin'! Just take a look!

The ridiculous bill aside, it is a nice place with a great atmosphere and delicious food and drinks. I have been here multiple times, but only ever at nighttime when someone else is paying for my drink, so I guess that's why I was so taken aback by the bill.

AND we paid for parking! Sheesh, living in Buckhead is insane sometimes!

Anyways, I hope everyone else had a lovely weekend!

Workin' on my fitness

I have always been a generally curvy girl, but after dating Max for several years, my curves have just turned into a "curve." As in, I'm fat. Anywho, that's when I decided that I needed to work out more seriously. I have always maintained my weight by playing tennis, swimming, hitting the elliptical here and there, but I have found that it was not enough to stave away the steadily creeping pounds. Then, I decided to pick up on running.

I cannot tell you how running, on the treadmill or outside, has changed my life (makes the elliptical seem like the dumbest thing ever). In a matter of weeks I have lost 12 pounds by running a little over 1.5-3 miles 4-5 times a week--this was also done with the help of a diet that did not include Max's nacho and Mountain Dew cravings.

I have also found that the right music can make running even more fun and can be super motivational as well. Here are my top 10 favorite songs to run to:

1. Don't Stop Me Now By Queen: Actually, any Queen song will do, but this song is simply the shit

2. Back In Black By AC/DC: The intro of this song gets me going every time!

3. 99 Red Balloons By Nena: English or German version, doesn't matter--the beat is so much fun for running or dancing too

4. Sweet Child of Mine By Guns n' Roses: The guitar solo in the beginning is great for picking up the pace during my run. And besides, who doesn't just LOVE Axel Rose's voice?

5. Eye of the Tiger By Survivor: Cliche? Yes, but it never, EVER fails to get me through a run

6. Come On Over By Christina Aguilera: I don't know why, but this song is just really pleasant for running... Don't judge!

7. Barracuda By Heart: Makes me feel like an unstoppable badass!

8. Viva La Vida By Coldplay: I know everyone is probably sick of them, but the crescendos and build-ups provided by the orchestra in this track are great for keeping you going

9. Stronger By Kanye West: Cliche? Yes, but still--how can the lyrics not motivate you?

10. Paper Planes By M.I.A.: Great, chill song for running when it's hot and humid out

You can probably tell one of two things by looking at my list: One, I need to update my iTunes, and two, I have terrible taste in music, haha. Keep in mind, however, that this list is compiled based on how it effects my running performance. They're all cheesy and upbeat, and if that doesn't get your blood pumping, then I don't know what will!

Hopefully some day I'll get to run around in only my sports bra and look as awesome as Maria Menounos

But until then, I'll be donning silly (yet comfy!) tees like this:

I'll get there slowly but surely!

Happy un-birthday to you!

My boyfriend Max turned the big 2-1 two days ago on August 4th. After celebrating it at midnight with a friend to do the usual bar-outing type thing, he decided to spend his birthday night with me.

Because I'm sort of an old bird (been 21 for almost 2 years now), we took it easy by going out to LaFonda (awesome cuban chain) for drinks and dinner and then Cafe Intermezzo for more drinks and some dessert... Pretty tame stuff for a newly-turned 21 year old, I know. It's probably my fault, haha. It's okay though, he'll go out and paint the town red like a real 21 year old sometime this weekend, I'm sure.

Isn't he just handsome? He's only going to keep looking better and better--I got him the Iron Gym (among other things!) for his birthday, lol.

NOTE: Sorry for the crappy quality of the pictures. I am on my third digital camera now, so I'm not allowed to own a nice one like most other bloggers.

Hello hello

Right now, I am in summer-limbo; I have just finished my summer classes at Georgia State and I am about to start studying for my LSATs again (gotta re-take it!). I don't really have time to go on vacation and I sort of just want to relax before jumping back into the the rat-race that is trying to get accepted into lawschool, so I thought right now would be a good time to start a blog.

Because I don't really have much of a social life anymore (see above for "rat race"), getting into blogging would be a nice way to stay occupied during my down time between studies.

Basically, I will use this blog to display and discuss things outside of academics--it'll be my little escape. We'll see what this thing evolves (or devolves) into, so in the mean time, enjoy the pictures, videos, rants, and so on and so forth.
